Trials and errors

RIGHT OFF THE BAT
allow me to apologize for the typo
in the last transmission.
Dee called my attention to it
soon after I posted it.

IT HAD TO DO WITH THE DATE
Of course there was a missing No. 1.
This is November, not January.
The 11th month.

THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN
even one more 1
in the subject line.

.................

Here's something deleterious that another time (date) caused.
Circa 1982, the Friedens UCC steeple had to be decapitated and set down
in the front yard. That's my VW Scirocco in the foreground.
That was a terrible time to serve on a church council.
It was a different place and a different time.
A changing and impoverished neighborhood
at 13th and Juneau, Milwaukee.
There was no money. 60 members left.
Friedens was destined to die
and in fact minister John Helt right out of seminary
presided over that
noble demise.

Now, in 2011, Helt's church thrives in Hubertus
and a symptom of that success
is the solar collecting mechanism
that sits astride the hilltop,
as high as the steeple
or higher.

And the 1st Congregational UCC
in Waukesha WI
has a new roof and other elaborate
features enabled by the monied members
who subscribed mightily to
a capitol fund drive.

The Friedenites were a brave
but small lot. At the end
they huddled around a 'jet engine'
heat blower to warm the small radius
of congregants. That was faith in action.
Then the doors locked.

^.^(Insert raccoon tracks here)^.^

In a previous SRN we reported that the vacant store
across the street from us at the Five Points
was expected to be tenanted by the new
Waukesha Chamber of Commerce.

That may still be in the offing, but right now
we delight in seeing the front sign and
lit windows at night of
THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY OF WAUKESHA.

Hi and good luck, neighbor!
