I ate a tomato
today/
it was given by a guy from church
who does his best
and one of those things
it to grow tomatoes/
he has a nose like an Indian/
when I sit at his side
in church
I admire his nose
askance, obliquely,
long and long/
he is tall and powerful
in his pursuits
and is known as Jim/
his tomatoes are filled with sunshine
and delivered lovingly/
Jim's tomatoes
- the species he grows -
have a German Cross inside
or could be a firefighter's emblem/
surely
at least one more
