Today, April 13th (2008) I espied the tiny pink prongs of the peonies bursting forth in the back garden. It reminded me of last year's poem celebrating the flower.
All Cheer the Radiant Peony
This glob of red
Taunted by ants
crawling all over her
Encouraging her
Titillating her
to exude her juices
Until her tight fist
relented
And she gave of herself
the painterly splash of red
known to you and me
as the peon
(not lowly of) knee
Hark!
I'm so excited
there is P
on my knee
The ants have done
their work
e'en on me
Look and see!
[Zep 5-28-07
the day she opened, unable to hold it
any longer]
