When I started my walk, at the bridge at the State Bank, a mother duck and her babies were shooting a brief rapids, with one of the youngsters leading the way. Mom followed at the rear of the column of zooming whitewater paddlers, maybe watching for trouble.
I noticed the ducks as I progressed downstream on the path. They were mostly lingering in the slower current, bobbing under the water for food, or maybe just looking to see what was down there.
Ducks still there, further upstream. Enlarge if interested. They're at midpoint, approx.
People spent a lot of time and treasure creating this Waukesha asset.
Near the end of the path, the W. Main St. former Israel Studebaker showroom and garage is across the street. A marvelous Art Deco building, now owned by private downtown denizens who restored it faithfully and added a lovely deck above the showroom, Israel Motors is just another improvement of many in the upgraded mercantile and residential district.
PS: I went to Hadfield grade school with Danny Israel, son of the dealer. What great cars those Studebakers were. For some years, the autos could have been coming or going, from the looks of the design.......you couldn't be sure.
