They rest in a small glass
in the kitchen window
rescued from the closing plantery
soon to freeze
outside
their leaves no longer green
they blend in color with the dropping leaves
outside;
all touched by frost;
the de-leafing tree now discloses
the neighbor's house again
but the nasturtiums bloom in the glass -
themselves bright orange
like Auden's poem 1939
show affirming flame
