You don't want to see it (the FREEMAN)

Today's Freeman newspaper has some interesting articles
and irritating ones at the same time, depending on your point of view. There is a front page article in this "amber" Conservative alarum proclaiming (with a local gun shop clarion pre-election photo) that gun sales are way up around here in fear of Obama's election. Front page stuff. The gun store operator couched his fear, for the Freeman reporter, in the certain knowledge that when Obama is elected, gun ownership will be threatened or abolished. Buy them while you still can, and boy, are they selling like hot cakes out there at the combo firing range/store! So said the gunpowdered interviewee.

And a grandmother writes a guest opinion column on the editorial page about her 14 year old grandson who said he would vote for Obama if he could vote - because Obama spoke better than McCain.
The good teacher/grandmother said, "It's not how someone talks, but what they say and what they do that counts. When you examine the facts, some people are all sizzle and no steak."
"How would you like it," the kindly grandmother asked, "if you had to share the money you earned mowing lawns with your friends?"
That, the boy said, wouldn't be fair. "Well, David," she told the him, "in essence that's what Obama wants to do........... (and on & on)"

It puts me in mind of the lyric from Rogers and Hammerstein's South Pacific:

*You've got to be taught to hate and fear,
You've got to be taught from year to year,
It's got to be drummed in your dear little ear,
You've got to be carefully taught.
You've got to be taught before it's too late,
Before you are six or seven or eight,
To hate all the people your relatives hate,
You've got to be carefully taught.*

On the subject of the Catholic high school principal who was "encouraged" to take down his Obama yard sign, http://raccoonnews.blogspot.com/2008/10/trouble-in-mccainpalin-country.html the Freeman’s anonymity-protected SOUND OFF column had these remarks from readers:
