SPAM (& etc.) One thing leads to another..........

PLAY THIS:

.................for old time's sake....................

We thought of that because of an Email exchange with Laurie of the Wheeling Symphony office this afternoon.

We were on the subject of Spam, and she remarked that she once saw man steal a can of it from a convenience store. Our exchanges are brief all the time. For me it is like speaking a different language, if you get my meaning. Brevity. Not usually my thing.

But the image of a bedraggled man lifting a can of Spam made me think:

What an item to steal! It's like Jean Val-Jean stealing the bread in Victor Hugo's Les Miserables. Imagine a man hungry enough to steal Spam. By extension you're led to ponder why he didn't pick a better cut of wrapped meat. I speculate that he didn't want to purloin something expensive, but a basic protein, of sorts. One which would perhaps lead a kind store manager to go easy on him if he were caught in the act.

Next I think of the present economy, when people are very glad to get a can of Spam at the food pantries.

During WW II we fancied my mother's Spam-wiches. They still are featured on the can. At the timt we thought they were great. Only much later did I become suspicious of their contents: tails, lips, snouts, and -gasp!-penises and anal parts? I think I could go for one of these right now, most contents notwithstanding.

I once saw a very poor looking man steal a can of spam in a convenience store. He must have been very hungry.
