On recovering usual composure

Usual composure
what is that?
One's mood changes daily
moment to moment
and is time-related
overall
When the Notice to Patrons 'frip'
was purchased in Williamsburg in the 1960s
at the Benny de Frank print shop
it was an item picked up near the cash register
as an after-thought, idea being
it would be something funny to display
when an office was left.
But,
now I've left several offices
and the old and undisplayed notice
is gathering dust in the basement.
What's this? You say I'm now really retired?
Will there be any return?
The setter of type by hand
did not know that in a present composure
a buyer of his mass-produced private notice
would be composing
in whatever mood is extant
messages of electrons easily
yet as fraught with the usual
composite peril
as in days of yore
but by speed
deadlier;
Even though the later typer
might have been better advised
to cover the bird, turn off the light,
and lock the door
long ago;
[Keep the notice handy..............]
