In gratitude, these children look lovingly and with profound awe at their hospital, school, roads, clinics, and many other things benefactor, the Mt. Everest conqueror, Edmund Hillary.
He bows to them, in their custom, and accepts their probably hand-picked clusters and garlands of flowers, and the token of highest respect they could bestow on Hillary, a white scarf.
This photo is a scan of a scan, hence is not of high quality here in this random diary. But I've had it tucked away in the bowels of my computer storage, and it will stay there and continue to get reviewed from time to time.
The facial painting, the camera's capture, is exquisite!
Sir Edmund wasn't hugely wealthy in the way we describe wealth, but he traveled the globe over many years with a rubber-banded and battered manila folder, soliciting contributions from donors who could afford it. He wanted to give back to the mountain's people, and he did.
They loved him for it. May he rest in peace!
