Camping with David

at Door County WI 10/06

I once did a metal sculpture out of cake pan tin

of an Indian with his arms stretched upward -

lost now in the vortex of churning basement affairs, messed up -

that had the same look as my son's unsuspecting likeness

above

We camped in the Peninsula State Park at Fish Creek,

at a time of few park users.

The trammeling of summer camping hordes was

being allowed, per nature's plan, or randomness

to regrow

to spring back up

To regenerate

through the off-season rest,

and we toasted bloody mary's to that, being glad to be alone

Uncle Tom's candy shop was the same

as it ever was, less Uncle Tom and Aunt Marge

We took the free popcorn greeting
as always

and bought peanut butter fudge and pancake mix

and a few other things

We went to Cave Point

it looked the same, although the waves

are doing their eroding

a slow work

And I stood on the cliff edge

for a photo David took;

victorious from heart surgery

on the cliff edge, upright

one more time

Glad to see my old friend, David Dix, doing the things he loves most, camping out in Door Cty. WI being one of them.
Never met his son, David, but wish I had.
Stay well friend and keep up the good work .

Your Loonie friend, David F. James, ffl
